National Accounts Division

Function: National Accounts Division compiles the national accounts of Guyana's economy which is subdivided into fifteen sub-sectors. Two of the most well-known variables produced by these accounts, and perhaps the two most requested by the public, are Gross Domestic Product and Per Capita Income.

Data collection: Data is collected on the output of the real and services sector of the economy. Examples of the data collected are: production of crops (such as rice, sugar, and other non-traditional crops), extraction of minerals (such as bauxite and gold), harvesting of seafood, and several manufactured items (varying from industrial items such as paint, to consumer items such as beverages).

The Bureau of Statistics has introduced a new series of Gross Domestic Product rebased and rebenchmarked to year 2006, replacing the series based in 1988. Below are downloadable files containing GDP by industry at constant and current prices for both the old (at 1988 prices) and new (at 2006 prices) series.
A brief overview of the newly rebased and rebenchmarked GDP series is also available:

Guyana Rebased GDP Series

The Bureau of Statistics held a seminar on its newly rebased GDP series on March 11, 2010 at the Pegasus Hotel, Georgetown. The Bureau also launched its first National Accounts publication Guyana System of National Accounts. The publication is available for download here Guyana System of National Accounts and copies of the Powerpoint presentations are also available on request (nataccts@statisticsguyana.gov.gy).
