External Trade
Function: External trade division
is responsible for the collection, extraction and compilation of all
trade data from various sources to produce and disseminate external
trade statistics of the economy, of which
the two main types are the quantity and value of exports and imports.
Data collection:
The division relies exclusively on the supply of data from the
Guyana Revenue Authority Customs Department and other import / export agencies.
System of Trade: "Imports" are the totals of all
imports cleared through customs for the local economy while "Exports" are the
exports of domestic producers, and include the re-exports of imported goods
which had previously been cleared through customs for the local
economy.
Quantities and Values:
All quantities and values are based on the declaration of importers and
exporters, and are subject to verification by customs officials. Values are
shown in Guyana Dollars (G$). Imports are valued C.I.F. (cost, insurance and
freight) and exports of domestic and foreign goods are valued F.O.B. (free
on board).

External Trade Report (1997 - 2004)
The
Bureau of Statistics has re-embarked on the publication of annual and
quarterly data for Guyana’s imports, domestic exports and re-exports.
From
1997 to 2001, the data has been presented annually and from 2002
onwards, on a quarterly basis. A report for the period 1997-2004
has been published and is available to download. Data for 2005 to date will be available soon.
